SUNDAY *BEGINNER* DROP-IN TENNIS AT PTC -- HIGHLIGHTS
The Sunday Drop-In Tennis at PTC program
has been continuing each Sunday at the Phoenix Tennis Center for several years. After quite a few requests, we are now
pleased to add a special, separate ‘BEGINNERS’ DROP-IN SESSION. Here are the highlights for it.
1. It is a also a Co-ed program, meaning both women and men are welcome, and will simply play together...NOT specifically structured
as mixed doubles pairs. Players of all ages are welcome, from teens to seniors!
2. It is for BOTH actual beginners, just learning to hold a racket and stroke the ball, AND also players with a little experience
(“advanced” beginners) – perhaps rated 2.0, 2.5, or a beginning 3.0 -- who want to get better before joining teams, leagues, and organized groups.
(Groups generally require a player to be able to get serves in fairly consistently, to return most strokes and keep rallies going, and of course,
to know the basic rules of tennis, how to keep score, and the basics of court positioning and tennis protocol.)
3. These Beginner sessions will help a new player with all of that! Stronger and more experienced players (both Intermediate and Advanced) will enjoy
attending our ‘regular’ Sunday Drop-In Tennis sessions which have a 6-pm check-in, and a different format.
(See the separate Highlights and Procedures information sheets. Intermediate players are solid 3.0's, 3.5's, and
some 4.0 players (especially gals). Advanced players are typically 4.0 and 4.5.
4. The TIME for our SUNDAY BEGINNER DROP-IN is 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm in the winter months (Sept - June) Check-in begins at 3:00 pm. No lesson clinics in the months of July and August.
Please come early to check in, register, and warm up,
so we can be well under way by 3:30 pm.
Check-in can vary from court to court. Check your email notification
5. The cost is $6.00 per person, which covers courts at Phoenix Tennis Center, plenty of practice balls, lights as needed, plus a few ‘munchies’.
Please bring your own racket. If you don’t have one yet, our Pro Shop can rent you a demo, or we have a few ‘extras’ to lend.
6. While reservations are NOT required (after all, it IS a drop-in program), you are invited to send an e-mail note to expect you and tell us a little about yourself, especially when coming for the first time. We often use courts 1-2-3-4 --
Occasionally, the courts or the starting time might change…and on occasion, we have to skip a week when all courts are in use by tournaments. We send e-mail notes to keep everyone informed.
7. No membership is required. The only cost is the per-person $6 for courts, balls, lights, and snacks when you do attend. For holidays, we’ll vote on whether to meet or not.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to write. Additional information is available at the PTC web site, including pix and video
clips from past drop-in sessions. The URL is
http://bedgell.com/PTC/index.html and then go to the Groups link. And again, whether or not the
Sunday BEGINNER /ADVANCED BEGINNER Drop-In Tennis at PTC is for you, please pass this invite along to anyone who might possibly be interested in
EITHER the ‘beginner’ or the ‘regular’ sessions! (We are currently also using the Meet-Up announcement program (with the Phoenix Valley Tennis Group,
and invite you to check it out, too! Using it helps us grow, and is free! (http://www.meetup.com/phoenixtennis/ )
See you on the courts!
